Alex is going to Mozambique, Africa to volunteer for 12 months.
As of January 2009 Alex will be calling Maputo City, Mozambique, Africa home. She will be volunteering at Mozarte, an art centre for local people. Alex will be assisting and teaching various forms of art including painting, batik, ceramics, clothe making as well as dance and singing (and eventually photography).
Alex organised this voluntary placement through ICYE-UK, a charity which concentrates on sending UK residents abroad to developing countries to volunteer in placements that will benefit the local residents. They also bring volunteers into the UK from abroad (including developing countries) helping voluntary based organisations in the UK. Each placement aims to give the volunteer new skills that will benefit their employability when they return home, as well as allow them to learn a new language, live abroad and gain valuable life experiences.
Money raised by each volunteer in the UK helps bring a volunteer from a developing country to the UK.
Alex is hoping that she will be able to improve her photography skills as well as her teaching skills. This year is going to be the making of Alex Perry Photography.
